Jessica Fletcher (Murder, She Wrote)

The widowed Jessica Fletcher lives in the small coastal town of Cabot Cove, Maine. After retirement, the former teacher has started to write thrillers on her old typewriter. As her nephew, Grady Fletcher Accountants, secretly sends her first manuscript to a publisher, the author unexpectedly makes a bestseller out of her first thriller.

When she is at a press campaign invited by her publisher to a costume party, she has no idea that her life is, thus, in addition to the sudden fame, going to change again. This is because a murder will take place during this costume party. Jessica Fletcher begins to be investigate and it is able to resolve this case. Over time, the author writes more thrillers, which put her in a position to undertake journeys and gather new impressions.

Since the investigation of her first murder case, the author is constantly asked to perform investigations into murders that take place in her nearby environment. Thereby, these killings are not limited to her hometown of Cabot Cove and surrounding area, but also happen during her travels.

Jessica Fletcher is often asked by the police to help them, but even without any requirements and demands, she still interferes in their investigations. Jessica Fletcher approaches cases with cleverness and wit, talents that prove very helpful in her crime investigations.

Moreover, the older lady, like the English Miss Marple, is never initially trusted when performing her investigation in a murder case so that the police is always a step ahead, although she is finally able to clear up the case before they do. Initially living in Cabot Cove, Jessica Fletcher later gave a lecture in criminology at the University of Manhattan. During the week she lived in an apartment there, but always returned on the weekends to her house in Cabot Cave.

Over time, Jessica Fletcher has frequently been assisted in her cases, for example by the private investigator Harry McGraw and, in the episode Novel Collection of the TV series Magnum PI, the writer investigates a murder case in Hawaii on the property of writer Robin Masters.

After an attack had been perpetrated on the guests during a party there, one of the guests came up with the idea to ask the novelist to search for the perpetrators. Private investigator Thomas Magnum is initially horrified, but must step by step approve the conclusions drawn by the ingenious author.
