Johnny Staccato

(USA, 1959 - 1960)

Johnny Staccato is an American detective series. Its 27 thirty-minute episodes were broadcast between September 10th 1959 and March 24th 1960.

The series was written by Dick Berg, while Everett Chambers was its producer.

Johnny Staccato, played by John Cassavetes, is an attractive, small daredevil who plays piano and also happens to be working as a private investigator. The scene of many of the 27 episodes was a jazz club in Greenwich Village owned by his friend Waldo, played by Eduardo Ciannelly.

In his interactions with women he was very clever and always charming. Since he also worked as a private investigator, he usually wore a weapon with him. Fortunately, he also had an evening job in Waldo's Jazz Club, because most of his clients were not financially well-off and he therefore could not make a living as a detective.

Musicians such as Barney Kessel. Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell, Red Norvo, and Johnny Williams were featured in the series. The theme song was composed by Elmer Bernstein.
