Cool and Lam

(USA, 1958)

Cool and Lam is a detective agency, as inspired by Erle Stanley Gardner’s books. However, Erle Stanley Gardner has written the books under the name A.A. Fair.

The two should probably have been the most unbalanced couple of all TV detectives. Bertha Cool is a well-built widow, a penny-pincher, as described in the book, and the chief of B. Cool Confidential Investigation.

Her partner is Donald Lam who does not hesitate from bending the law when required. His main weapon is his brain. Bertha says about Donald that he is indeed a little runt, but very clever nonetheless. Together they would be the best detective team ever.

In 1958, a pilot was shot for a planned Cool and Lam television series, starring Billy Pearson and Benay Venuta in the roles of Lam and Cool. Jacques Tourneur was the one directing the movie, however, it unfortunately never became a series.

All in all, there are 29 novels about the detective duo.
