The Fugitive

 

(USA, 1963 - 1967)

 

The Fugitive is an American television series aired by the ABC broadcasting company from 1963 to 1967.

 

The story is about a doctor called Kimble (portrayed by Davin Janssen), who is wrongly accused of murdering his wife. He is found guilty by the court and sentenced to death.

 

On his way from the court to the jail, Dr. Kimble manages to escape and is on the run for 20 episodes, each 47 minutes long. Of the 120 filmed episodes, 75 in were aired Germany.

 

The fugitive Dr. Kimble tries to find the real killer of his wife. On the day of the murder, as Dr. Kimble came to his house, a one-armed man (portrayed by Bill Raisch) ran out of the house, and it is him who he believes to be the murderer of his wife.

 

It is him whom Dr. Kimble is now trying to find while running away from police Lieutenant Philip Gerard (portrayed by Barry Morse). He is the detective responsible for investigating the murder case and is convinced of Kimble's guilt.

 

During his escape, Dr. Kimble always helps people who find themselves in dangerous situations or in trouble.

 

The series is based on a true story that happened in 1954, in Cleveland. Hopes Samuel Shepard was also falsely accused and convicted of murdering his pregnant wife. He was therefore sentenced to life imprisonment. After 10 years, the case was re-opened, and Sam Shepard was acquitted for lack of evidence in a retrial.

 

The series The Fugitive achieved great success both nationally and internationally, and the lead actor, David Janssen, became internationally famous thanks to it. In the last episode of the series, in which Dr. Kimble captures the murderer of his wife, the ratings were at 71%!
