Deadbeat

First Broadcast: June 11th 2006

Leonard Lansink as Detective Wilsberg

Storyline

Ekki Talkotter is head over heels in love. He is, however, skeptical of the intentions of his loved one, Denise. When she tells him that her ex, Gisbert, is currently in town, and that she wishes to visit her aunt in Dresden just to be on the safe side, Ekki becomes suspicious and asks his friend Wilsberg for help.

Wilsberg, who is working as a private detective in Munster, should establish whether Denise is actually on her way to her aunt. Wilsberg, convinced that Denise would only cause his friend pain, takes him up on his request. He thereby finds out that he was not mistaken. Instead of driving to her aunt in Dresden, Denise is meeting with another man. However, him being Overbeck, Inspector Anna Springer’s assistant, is a shocker.

A series of unfavorable circumstances bring Overbeck, Wilsberg, Ekki and even Alex in the corporate offices of businessman Uwe Schlachkamp. Unfortunately, they find the businessman dead – shot by an unknown person.

Inspector Anna Springer, under whose jurisdiction the murder case falls, is very concerned, as she must now question her closest friends and her assistant, but she has no other choice.

Georg Wilsberg is naturally not willing to leave the entire investigative work to his friend Anna Springer and begins doing his own research. Together, the two find out that Gisbert Lotze, Denise’s ex and former best friend of Schlachkamp was employed as a bookkeeper for the same company.

The two had evaded millions in taxes together, but while Schlachkamp was legally represented by Alex, the businessman was acquitted. The reason for this was that Lotz, as main prosecution witness, did not participate in the negotiations, and without his testimony a conviction was not possible.

Moreover, the joint research showed that Ekki’s and Overbeck’s friend, Denise Schulte, was also involved in the tax evasion, as they had a small bogus company that they operated together with Gisbert Lotze, who was laundering the defrauded funds.
