A.J. Simon

Lawyer A.J. Simon manages the Simon & Simon Detective Agency in San Diego, close to the Mexican border, together with his brother Rick Simon.

Andrew Jackson Simon (nicknamed A.J., played by Jameson Parker) is a quiet and rational man who usually tries to adhere to the rules and laws in both his personal and professional life. He is also the more literate one of the two brothers, living in a clean apartment behind their office in San Diego. The always well-dressed A.J. with a preference for suits knows that most things can be solved with care and charm rather than by brute force.

In the early episodes of the series, A.J. drove a 1957 black Bel Air Chevrolet, but he later bought a Chevrolet Camaro Z28, remaining faithful to the Chevrolet brand.

Since it the somewhat conservative A.J. has a need to convince his brother of the advantages of his lifestyle, the conflict between them is naturally unavoidable. The resulting fights form a recurring plot within in the very popular television series from the 80’s. A point of conflict of equal impact between Simon & Simon is the way they both approach a case. Andrew Jackson’s well-thought and often deliberate operation is mostly contrary to Rick’s work methods.

Directly across from the detective Simon & Simon is the detective bureau of Myron Fowler, for whom A.J. used to work. A.J. was also good friends with Fowler's daughter, Janet, who was working as a secretary in her father’s office, and they later even became engaged. What makes matters worse is that his former employee, A.J. Simon, now runs his own detective agency not only in the same city, but directly across Fowler’s office. This led to a cordial enmity between the two competitors, which also receives sufficient focus throughout the series.

Gradually, however, the situation between the two changed. In the second season of Simon & Simon, Myron Fowler has resigned from his detective agency to enjoy life as a pensioner. However, since he is constantly short of money, he always takes on commissions from the two brothers. Janet Fowler later worked as an assistant to the prosecutor and is thus always a source of information to the brothers. Since the relationship between Janet and A.J. has not worsened significantly after they broke off the engagement, she gladly helps the two investigators.

In the second season, Simon & Simon have moved their offices to the first floor of a small office building. A.J. and Rick's mother, Cecilia Simon, who views the work of her two sons with scepticism, only rarely made an appearance in this season.

The movie Simon & Simon, which the series is based on, was aired  the film was aired a few years after the end of the 150-part series. In the film, A.J. meanwhile moved from San Diego to Seattle, where he worked as a lawyer. Also, he had now married.
