The Thin Man

(USA, 1957 - 1959)

The Thin Man is an American detective novel by Dashiell Hammett published in 1934. It was his last novel. The novel was adapted ??into a successful movie.

After a four year hiatus, detective Nick Charles returns to his wife Nora and their terrier, Asta, in New York. Here he is approached by a young woman at the counter of a bar, who seems to know him from before.

She asks him about her father, Clyde Wynant, whom she has not seen in years, despite her attempts of finding him. This Clyde Wynant is “The Thin Man". Nick immediately sets out in search for her father and is assisted by his wife and his dog.

The role of Nick Charles is played by William Powell and that of his wife by Myrna Loy. During the filming, there was a slight deviation from the original novel. Thus arose e.g. the impression that "The Thin Man" was actually Nick Charles and the dog in the movie is a Schnauzer and not a Terrier.
