Daniel Wilde

American oil millionaire Daniel Wilde (played by Tony Curtis) was born in the Bronx of New York and did not have an easy youth. Through hard work he has managed to escape the Bronx and wise investments and several oil wells and stock market speculation have brought Danny Wilde immense wealth.

The athletic Wilde loves beautiful women, fast cars and good whiskey. In the series, he plays the type of frivolous playboy who is mostly busy enjoying the amenities of his assets.

In the German dubbed version of the series, Wild has one flippant humour and is always good ay cheeky sayings. Beautiful women believe him to be very charming, sometimes even intrusive. Nevertheless, he is just as popular with women as his friend Lord Sinclair.

His appearance is always fashionable and stylish, and his clothing is of course of excellent quality. The always good-humoured self-made millionaire drives a Dino 246 GT, a sports car designed by Pininfarina.

The Actor

Tony Curtis was born on 03.06.1925 as the son of a Hungarian actor and tailor in New York and grew up in Manhattan and later in the Bronx. After his military service, Tony Curtis, born as Bernard Schwartz, started taking acting lessons. After many shallow appearances, he made ??his breakthrough with such films as The Defiant Ones alongside Sidney Poitier, The Outsider and Sweet Smell of Success.

Towards the end of the 1960’s, Tony Curtis' career in the U.S. was in decline. But he could inspire both the critics and his audience with the 1968 film The Boston Strangler. However, he was not able to reach the same success with any other movie in the following years, which is why The Boston Strangler is sometimes referred to as his last great film.

In 1970 he was persuaded by Sir Lew Grade to take on the role of Danny Wilde in the television series to take on The Persuaders. When the shooting started, he bought a house on Chester Square in Belgravia, London, and travelled from there to the more remote locations with the crew.

Initially, there were many differences of opinion between Sir Grade and Curtis when asked about the wardrobe that Danny Wilde would wear on the show. Sir Grade was of the opinion that Danny Wilde should dress as a business man. Tony Curtis was of the opinion, however, that Danny was never engaged in any transactions anyway. Therefore, he thought that dressing casually and wearing a leather jacket would give more credibility to his character. Moreover, the character would also represent a counterpoint to the always well-dressed Lord Sinclair. This is the argument that Tony Curtis used to affirm himself in front of Sir Grade.

Among many other awards, the star received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Bambi award, a Golden Bravo Otto, the Golden Camera for Lifetime Achievement, as well as several more nominations and awards. Tony Curtis, who in the last years of his life ran a sanctuary for abused and abandoned horses and mules with his wife, Jill, and did many guest appearances in film and television, died on 29.09.2010 at his home in Henderson, Nevada.
