Prior to her work for the Las Vegas police, Catherine Willows attended college and earned money for it by stripping. Here she met her future husband, Eddie, who gradually brought her into contact with drugs and alcohol. While pregnant with her daughter Catherine Lindsey, she decided to leave her husband and file for divorce.

After the divorce and the birth of her daughter, she successfully graduated as a scientific investigator with the police. She is a divorced single mother and sometimes finds itdifficult to coordinate private and professional life so that her daughter does not miss out. In most, but by no means all, cases, this is achieved it quite well.

The main reason why Catherine Willows (played by Marg Helgenberger), engaged in forensic and crime scene investigation is the challenge to conduct an analysis of the many different pieces of evidence and resolve a case. Over time, the initially unstable Catherine beomes an investigator with great expertise, who does not rely only on facts, but often familiar instinct.

These emotional reactions often lead to discussions with Gil Grissom, her superior in the television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Nevertheless, Grissom is convinced of Catherine’s skills and expertise and supports them again and again. These skills also imply that she is a conscientious employee who focuses on her teammates, often balancing their different natures and acting cool even under stress.

Catherine Willows, whose specialty at the CSI is blood analysis, is, in addition to Gil, the longest serving employee of the night shift at the Las Vegas Crime Lab and is aiming for an executive position at the CSI. For this reason, Grissom sometimes entrusts her with the management of the night shift, if he is not home.

Also in the third season, Catherine Willows finds out that Sam Brown, a casino boss with whom she has always had a good relationship, is her ??father.

Catherine is constantly thinking about switching to the day shift, so she would have more time for her daughter. When her supervisor, Gil Grissom, leaves the CSI, though, she succeeds him as leader, so that a change is no longer an option.
