Gilbert "Gil" Grissom

Gilbert Grissom was born in California and grew up there as well. When he was five years old his parents divorced. In his childhood, Gilbert often gathered dead seagulls or other dead animals on the beach and brought them home to learn more about nature and life. As a teenager, his knowledge in this area was so good that the police involved him in the autopsy of a dead animal.

When he was 16 years old, Gilbert Grissom had already done an internship at the city morgue. Then he studied biology and was the youngest pathologist in California at 22. Later, he started working for the Las Vegas Crime Lab.

In the American TV crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Dr. Gilbert Grissom (played by William Petersen) is chief of the night shift at the Las Vegas Crime Lab. CSI is short for Crime Scene Investigation and stands for forensic and crime scene investigation.

Work has always come first in Grissom's life. In his very little spare time he likes to listen to classical music or deal with insects, his specialty, so still something to do with work. Moreover, Grissom likes to go to amusement parks. Although Gil Grissom is alone, he has a strong attraction to women in a quiet and unobtrusive way, intelligent and very eloquent.

Gil Grissom is head of a team consisting of very different investigator. It is comprised of forensic expert Catherine Willows, analyst Warrick Brown and charming investigator Nick Stokes and his colleague Sara Sidle. Bringing this mixture of very different characters under one roof and keeping it under control required a lot of work. He is simply called Gil or Grissom by his friends and colleagues.

He conveys calmness to his individual team members. Sometimes the team leader stumbles upon Captain Jim Brass (in charge of homicide) in his work and kicks him over for the team. Gil Grissom protects his employees not only from difficulties that may occur within the department - sometimes he also protects them against the results of their own and risky decisions.

Since joining the CSI team, he has managed to push his team to the top of the U.S. Crime Lab rankings and continues to push forward so that this team is now in second place nationwide.

In their work, the CSI team do not only investigate murder cases or cases of suicide, but also robberies and violent crimes. The team is called whenever evidence and traces must be secured in order to later obtain evidence of the crime and the offender through the use of modern scientific methods. The investigation ends once the perpetrator or perpetrators have been convicted and condemned.

The team is aware that the investigation of a case can sometimes depend on a single hair, a drop of blood, a contact lens or other small things. People can lie, and do so very often - evidence never lies. It is the motto of the team "No victim should be able to say we have not tried everything."

Although Grissom seems to be a rather callous person who lives only for his job, this is not necessarily true. In the course of the series, a relationship between him and his colleague Sara Sidle begins, initially very tentative. The two investigators met in San Francisco at a seminar dealing with forensics. The introverted Gil has strong doubts about this relationship. The reason for this is that he is 15 years older than Sara - and also her boss

Both held this relationship secret from their colleagues. Their friends and colleagues learned of it only when Sara was kidnapped at the end of the 7th season. After his girlfriend, Sara, left the team in the middle of the 8th season to participate in an expedition into the jungle, Gil Grissom left the team in the 9th season to follow her. The two got married at the beginning of the 10th season. His successor as head of the CSI team was Catherine Willows.
