Lieutenant Monahan (played by Garry Wallberg) is a homicide investigator of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and is the lead detective on site at least at the beginning of a murder investigation. When Quincy interferes in such obvious cases of murder in his investigation, the two quarrel because of Quincy’s authority excesses.

Monahan always blames Quincy for taking over police matters in addition to his work as a forensic scientist. Basically close friends, Lieutenant Monahan helps Quincy because he regards him as a clever man who pursues his investigation with enthusiasm and flair.

Cases of apparent fatal accidents or suicide in which Quincy discovers abnormalities also lead to disputes between the two. But although Monahan must always be convinced of Quincy's theses, the coroner is always on his side in case of an emergency.

Lieutenant Monahan is assisted in his work by Detective Brill (played by Joseph Roman). But you mostly have the feeling that it is Quincy who supports Brill and not the other way around. Another employee of LAPD is Crime Scene Photographer Eddie (played by Ed Garrett), whose task is to produce crime scene photos. Because he knows that Dr. Quincy sometimes begins his autopsies locally, he must go about his work in a timely manner, which doesn’t always make things easy.
