Â
Dr. Temperance "Tempe" Brennan is a forensic anthropologist and is a lecturer at the University of Charlotte (North Carolina, USA). She is also employed in the summer and semester breaks at the Forensic Institute of Montreal (Canada). Tempe swings back and forth between these worlds.
Â
Dr. Brennan investigates cases often characterized by special cruelty. They sometimes include small children or babies as victims of which usually only skeletons or single bones are found.
Â
The offenders are usually psychopaths who kill out of pure bloodlust. She is a very dedicated woman who has always worked with full dedication and worked until she dropped if necessary or if she sees this as a need.
Â
During these investigations, Tempe is endangered every now and again, because she often does not take into account the entire scope of her actions. She has not drunk a drop of alcohol since the separation from her husband, Pete. She loves sports, jogging and going to the gym.
Â
The investigations at the forensic institute are described in detail by the author Kathy Reichs and scientific terms are explained soberly. As the stories play partly in French Canada, French phrases or whole sentences are often incorporated in the story.
