Orville Wilbur Wright III., previously nicknamed O., has been calling himself Rick since his return from Vietnam. During his service, he made the acquaintance of his friends, Thomas Magnum and T.C. He replaced T.C.’s missing helicopter gunner during his Vietnam time.

The parents of Rick and of his younger sister, Wendy, died when the two were still very little, so the two grew up at Francis Hofstettler’s home, nicknamed Icepick. Since Hofstettler is a crime boss in Chicago, Rick came into contact with organized crime starting from his childhood.

Rick, who is fluent in Italian, opened Rick's Cafe Americain, also known as "The Snow Palace" due to cocaine trafficking, after his return from the war as a reference to Humphrey Bogart's Cafe in the film Casablanca. “As Time Goes By” is naturally his favourite song. He later went bankrupt with this cafe, but was then appointed Managing Director of the very exclusive King Kamehameha Club.

Higgins, good friends with Rick, member of the Old Pari Road Club board, eased the way for the post of Managing Director a little, but could also make his daily work quite difficult. Rick is a big baseball fan and a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Rick is always ready to help his friend Magnum in solving a case. In his capacity as manager of the King Kamehameha Club, he may also assist the private investigator motoryachts King Kamehameha II and III, which belong to the club. Because of his relationship with the mafia boss Icepick, Rick may often help the private investigator with information.

In the last episode of the series, Rick is on his way to tying the knot with his beloved, Cleo Mitchell (played by Phyllis Davis), a former prostitute. As the series ends at this point, the audience will never know if the marriage took place, since the words "I Do" were never uttered.

Rick Wright is portrayed in the series by Larry Manetti, who, by the way, has bought one of the original Ferraris from the Magnum series after its final episode for his own private usage.
