Detective Yelina Salas (played by Sofia Milos) is working as a police detective in the Miami Dade Police Department. Although Horatio Caine fell in love with her, he never confessed his feelings.

Yelina married Horatio's brother Raymond Caine, who works as an undercover agent for the police. Yelina has a son with her husband, named Ray Jr. After her husband was killed during a covert investigation, she continues raising her son alone.

The relationship between her and her brother-in-law, Horatio, is purely friendly and he helps her again and again, if there are problems with Ray Jr.

After her husband's death, Yelina had a brief relationship with Rick Stettler, an investigator from Internal Affairs. Yelina appeared one day with a black eye in the department, when Horatio found out that Stettler was regularly abusing her and his nephew, Ray Jr.. Thanks to the energetic intervention of the Horatio Cane, the relationship between Yelina and Stettler ended.

After it was revealed that Raymond's death was just a staging of the FBI, so he could carry out his investigations undisturbed, Horatio helped Yelina, his brother Raymond and Ray Jr. to go into hiding.

The departure takes place at a small airport, and the viewer can observe how Yelina and Ray Jr. go on a Learjet and that Raymond Caine waves to his brother Horatio from the door of the aircraft.

After Raymond was murdered in Brazil, Yelina appears again several times in guest roles in the series CSI: Miami.
