CSI: Miami

The American television series CSI: Miami, produced since 2002, is the first spin-off of the highly successful series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In contrast to the often gloomy shots of the colleagues from the Las Vegas Crime Lab, the whole atmosphere in Miami is mostly sunny and colourful.

The first seasons of the series were distinguished by a different colour coordination. This was in the third season, for example, the colour yellow and in the fourth season the colour orange. The colour coordination was clearly recognizable in the case of landscapes as well as in the general coloration of the recordings.

In the later episodes this implementation has been changed so that now the bright colours of sunny Florida now stand in the foreground. In addition, increasingly split screens have been used since the fourth season as a means of expression, so that various activities can be displayed simultaneously or the viewer can look at activities or events from different camera angles.

Aerial images of Miami are shown when changing between scenes in the series. As with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation track and CSI: NY, CSI: Miami is also mostly filmed in Los Angeles. The exterior shots of the series are filmed for most at Long Beach in California, because the local places have a great resemblance to Miami.

Product placement plays a bigger role in the series, because in almost every episode, companies known for their technical devices are shown in close-ups. These include, for example, computers from Apple or Dell, HP printers, mobile phones and many other devices. Likewise, all the team members of CSI: Miami drive a Hummer H2, always placed very eventfully in scenes.

Like the crime scene investigators from Las Vegas and later New York, Horatio Caine and his team at Crime Scene Investigation Miami are very popular with the viewers. Their procedure hardly differs from the Las Vegas and New York. Forensic research in combination with forensic examinations at the forefront of each episode in Miami as well, and all episodes are based on the principle Whodunit.

CSI: Miami is successfully broadcast in over 36 countries worldwide and is one of the USA's most-watched shows. Besides guest appearances by Colin Ferguson (known for Eureka) and Leslie Bibb (known as Detective Lu Simmons from the series Crossing Jordan), rapper Xzibit and skateboarder Tony Hawk also appear in an episode.

The exterior shots of the CSI: Miami headquarters are of the Federal Credit Union at 14600 Aviation Blvd in Hawthorne, California, near Los Angeles.
