The Two (The Persuaders)

The Persuaders is an English crime series, filmed from 1970 to 1971 in the UK and Southern France. The protagonists of the series are two completely different characters. Danny Wilde (played by Tony Curtis) is an American businessman who grew up in the Bronx, and became a millionaire through his business and aristocrat Lord Brett Sinclair (played by Roger Moore) comes from an old noble family, also a millionaire. Both are playboys who like to be surrounded by good looking women.

After the two were involved in a fight at the American Bar at the luxurious Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, they face a prison sentence of 90 days. But it is a blessing in disguise - the retired Judge Fulton will save them from the inhospitable and little luxurious jail cell. However, the judge places the condition that the two must solve a series of open criminal cases for him. The prospect of these activities are in any case more interesting as prison, so the two of them agree to this arrangement.

Fortunately, the judge sends them mostly in places like St. Tropez, London or Paris, where the rich and especially beautiful women are found. Both Danny and Brett see themselves less as private investigators and more as amateurs. The solution of criminal cases is their pastime rather than real detective work.

Although designed as humorous crime drama, the dialogue in the original series was rather dry. In Germany, the series became a cult mainly due to the more unconventional synchronization, connecting adjacent jargon and expressions to mafia slang and the scene of Berlin pubs with a good deal of satirical irony. Locations have included London, Paris and Monte Carlo.

There, Lord Sinclair was happily addressed as “Your Hose” or "World Wonder". Slogans such as "oh, oh, let us ride the dachshund " or "stay behind me, if you’re peeing in your pants" could be heard from beginning to end in every episode - and the audience loved these sayings, making it a sort of street sweeper ??. Since then, the series has been re-aired on German television.

The series distributed in over 80 countries became a worldwide hit series, whereby the individual episodes were synchronized similarly in both France and Germany. It is only in the American market that the series did not pick up as hoped. It was a flop and it was decided to cancel it after the first 24 episodes.
